Indigo launches expert witness liability coverage for physicians

AI-driven medical liability platform expands protection for doctors participating in legal proceedings

Indigo, the AI-powered medical professional liability insurance provider, has rolled out a new layer of protection for doctors: Expert Witness Liability Coverage. The new policy extension is designed to cover physicians who serve as expert witnesses in legal cases — a growing area of exposure often left unaddressed by traditional coverage.

“Physicians are often asked to contribute to the legal process as expert witnesses, which extends their expertise beyond clinical settings and opens them up to potential risk,” said Braden Davis, co-founder and chief insurance officer at Indigo. “Our new coverage ensures physicians can meet this request with confidence, knowing they have protection to help in these unique situations.”

The policy covers:

  • Defense costs related to testimony
  • Deposition support
  • Protection from claims of professional negligence or misrepresentation tied to expert witness work

Indigo’s platform uses artificial intelligence to tailor pricing and coverage based on a physician’s individual risk profile, offering efficient quoting and minimal paperwork. Policies can be bound without an application or prior loss runs — part of Indigo’s mission to simplify medical liability insurance.

Since launching in December 2023, Indigo has grown steadily with a focus on underwriting profitability. Backed by Rubicon Founders, Oak HC/FT and Optum Ventures, the company is on track to triple premiums and insure more than 1,000 physicians by the end of 2025. Its national distribution network includes handpicked brokers and a digital-first approach built for today’s healthcare providers.
