As Vice President for Risk Management and Insurance for the largest and most comprehensive academic health system in New Jersey, Doug Shaw oversees clinical risk management, claims and litigation management and risk financing including the organization’s captive insurance company.  

Prior to joining RWJBarnabas Health, Mr. Shaw was the Chief Risk Officer at Nuvance Health where he was responsible for clinical risk management, internal claims management, self-insurance, and managing medical malpractice, general liability and other litigation.  Before joining Nuvance Health, he was Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County, NY and then practiced law with a concentration on the defense of hospitals and physicians in complex medical malpractice litigation. 

Mr. Shaw earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University and a law degree from New York Law School.
